Introduction
Thank you for using TripBrief ("we," "our," or "the App"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how TripBrief handles your information.
TripBrief stores all your data locally on your device. We don't collect, transmit, or have access to any of your personal information.
Information We Collect
Data You Provide
When you use TripBrief, you may choose to create and store:
- **Trip Information**: Trip titles, destinations, dates
- **Travel Details**: Transportation bookings (flights, trains), accommodation reservations
- **Itinerary Information**: Activities, dining reservations, notes
- **Photos**: Images you add to trips, destinations, activities, dining, transportation, or accommodations
- **Booking Details**: Confirmation codes, phone numbers, addresses
**Important**:
All of this data is stored **locally on your device only**.
We do not have access to it.
Data We Do NOT Collect
TripBrief does **NOT** collect, access, or transmit:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data or GPS tracking
- Usage analytics or app usage patterns
- Device information or unique identifiers
- Any data from your trips or itineraries
- Any photos you add to the app
How We Use Your Information
Since all data is stored locally on your device, TripBrief:
- **Displays** your trips, itineraries, and photos within the app
- **Generates** PDF exports of your trips when you choose to export
- **Shows** today's itinerary in the home screen widget
- **Does NOT** send any data to external servers
- **Does NOT** share your data with third parties
- **Does NOT** use your data for advertising or analytics
Data Storage
Local Storage Only
All trip data is stored in a local database on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Trip and destination information
- Transportation and accommodation details
- Activities and dining reservations
- Notes and booking confirmations
- Photos (stored as part of the app's local database)
App Groups
TripBrief uses Apple's App Groups feature to share data between:
- The main TripBrief app
- The TripBrief home screen widget
This sharing happens **only on your device** and does not involve any external servers or cloud services.
Photo Access
Why We Need Photo Access
TripBrief requests access to your Photo Library to allow you to:
- Select photos to add to your trips
- Add photos to destinations, activities, dining, transportation, and accommodations
What We Do With Photos
- Photos are **copied** from your Photo Library and stored in the app's local database
- Photos remain **on your device only**
- Photos are **never uploaded** to any server
- Photos are **not shared** with any third party
- You can delete photos from TripBrief at any time without affecting your original Photo Library
Permissions
When you first try to add a photo, iOS will ask for permission. You can:
- **Allow**: You can select photos to add to your trips
- **Deny**: You can still use all other features of TripBrief
You can change this permission anytime in iOS Settings → TripBrief → Photos.
Data Sharing & Exports
PDF Exports
When you export a trip as a PDF:
- The PDF is generated **locally on your device**
- You control where the PDF is shared (email, Messages, AirDrop, etc.)
- We do not have access to or track what you do with exported PDFs
Future Features (Not Yet Implemented)
We are planning features that may allow:
- Exporting trips as shareable files
- Importing trips from files
If implemented, these features will:
- Still keep all data on your device
- Give you complete control over what you share and with whom
- Not involve any cloud services or servers operated by us
We will update this Privacy Policy if we implement features that change how we handle data.
Third-Party Services
TripBrief does **NOT** use any third-party services, including:
- Analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase)
- Advertising networks
- Cloud storage or backup services
- Social media integrations
- Crash reporting services
Data Security
How Your Data is Protected
- **Local Storage**: All data stays on your device, protected by iOS security
- **Device Encryption**: When your device is locked, your data is encrypted by iOS
- **No Transmission**: Since data never leaves your device, it cannot be intercepted
- **No Account**: No login required means no password to be compromised
Your Responsibility
Since data is stored locally:
- **Backup Your Device**: Use iCloud or iTunes backup to prevent data loss
- **Device Security**: Keep your device locked with a passcode or Face ID/Touch ID
- **Lost Device**: If you lose your device, your TripBrief data goes with it (no cloud recovery)

Data Retention & Deletion
How Long We Keep Your Data
We don't keep your data because we never receive it. All data remains on your device until you delete it.
How to Delete Your Data
You can delete data at any time:
- **Delete a Photo**: Tap the X button on any photo
- **Delete an Activity/Dining/etc.**: Swipe left and tap Delete
- **Delete a Destination**: Swipe left on a destination and tap Delete
- **Delete a Trip**: Swipe left on a trip in the trips list and tap Delete
- **Delete Everything**: Uninstall the app, and all data is permanently removed
**Note**: Deleted data cannot be recovered unless you have an iOS device backup.

TripBrief does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since all data is stored locally on the device, parents have complete control over what their children enter into the app.

Under various privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have rights regarding your personal data. Since TripBrief does not collect or have access to your data:

- **Right to Portability**: You can export your trips as PDFs
- **Right to Opt-Out**: Not applicable, as we don't collect data

- Notify you through an app update note in the App Store
